Murder of elderly man in Howrah apartment raises concerns; Family claims jewelry, phone missing

An elderly man's mysterious death in the Golabari police station area of Howrah has sent a wave of shock through the locality. The body of 65-year-old Asim Dey was discovered on Friday morning inside his third-floor apartment in a multi-story building named Indira Bhavan. The circumstances surrounding his death have led family members to suspect it was not a natural demise but a case of murder followed by robbery, a claim that has put the police on high alert.

According to family sources, Asim Dey often lived alone in his apartment. He was unreachable since Thursday night, with repeated phone calls going unanswered and his mobile phone switched off. Growing concerned, his family contacted another resident of the same apartment, Shivkumar Sharma, and asked him to check on Dey early on Friday morning. Sharma found the apartment door was not locked from the inside, but the window latch was partially unlatched. Upon entering, he discovered Dey's lifeless body.

The situation became even more suspicious when it was revealed that four valuable gold rings and a mobile phone were missing from the scene. This discovery has fueled the family's strong conviction that Dey’s death was not a natural one but a deliberate act of murder for financial gain. They have lodged a formal complaint with the police, demanding a thorough investigation into the matter.

Adding to the mystery, surveillance footage from the apartment building's CCTV cameras captured a currently unidentified individual entering Dey's flat and leaving approximately two hours later. While the identity of this person remains unclear, police are actively reviewing the footage to establish who they are and their connection to the incident. This video evidence is a crucial part of the ongoing investigation, as it supports the family's claim of foul play.

Upon receiving the report, Golabari police immediately arrived at the scene. They took possession of the body and sent it for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Police sources have stated that the case is being investigated from all angles, considering both murder and robbery. The police have registered a case and are intensifying efforts to identify the suspect seen in the CCTV footage.
